I had been craving Jeni's.. and knew i had a trip up to Columbus due. I agreed to take boy and we snuck off to Columbus for a Mom & Son trip.
I asked him as we went to the High Street location, what he wanted. "I need a baby cone, with 'nilla ice cream, Mom."
We got there and i picked him up and asked for a taste of the Watermelon Lemonade Sorbet. it was something I wanted to try.
I liked it but gave him a taste too. I asked if he wanted it, he said yes. So he got a kid size bowl, with a cone on top. He squeeled in delight as the woman on the other side of the counter gave him his bowl and said "thank you!" I picked up the stone fruit sunday and we both sat down in the front window on the classic yellow metal seats.
Before I even could grab a bite of mine, Boy had picked up the metal spoon out of my ball glass jar and popped in into his mouth. A mouth full of hand whipped whipped cream. He nodded and said "That's good mom"
So there we sat, watching people (okay I watched him watching people) he waved to elegantly dressed women all in black making them smile, and waved to couples walking their dogs. Waved to people dressed in scarlet and gray for the game and ate his sorbet. He would occasionally scrape some just on the tip of the plastic spoon and share. The cone laid on the recycled brown napkin untouched, occasionally being picked up for a horn but never tasted.
We finished our treat and picked up some things for home (Pint of Brown Butter Almond Brittle, Watermelon Lemonade, Backyard Mint, and a Scarlet and Earl Gray sandwich for later)
It was a good day.
